The Bronx Tourism Council’s Guide to a Bar Crawl on 161st Street

There are so many reasons to partake in a bar crawl — one of them being if you’re attending a game in Yankee Stadium. If that’s the case, you’re in luck, because 161st Street has plenty of bars that could be included in the route. We recommend staying at each of these bars for about an hour.

1. Yankee Tavern

 72 E 161st St

Named for the baseball team, this bar/restaurant is the best place to start because they not only have drinks, but they also have good food for a great price. A plate of pasta, some wings, sandwiches go for about 15 dollars and the portions are generous. Take this opportunity to fill up so you can survive the rest of the crawl and the game.

2. Stan’s Sports Bar

836 River Ave

Stan’s is only open on game days, making it a novelty place to visit before you go to a game. There is also food at Stan’s, and an outdoor area. It gets packed in Stan’s, especially on sunny days, but there is plenty of room and a good beer selection. This is a really great place to hang out before the game.

3. Bronx Draft House

 884 Gerard Ave

Next is Bronx Draft House on Gerard Ave, which has a happy hour on weekdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a particularly great place for cocktails, but they also have a wide selection of draft beer. Additionally, they have a game day menu with lower prices.

4. The Dugout

 880 River Ave

By the end of the crawl, you’ve likely gained a few more participants and need a place that will accept a big group. The Dugout is a large space with delicious cocktails and a great beer selection. It’s also close to the stadium, so once you’re done with the crawl, you can head on over to the game.
