#SavorSpotlight: Seis Vecinos

By
Jilleen Barrett

Seis Vecinos is a Central American restaurant in The Bronx run by a local family whose family tree traces back to Mexico and Honduras. The name of the restaurant also relates back to their heritage: “Seis Vecinos” translates to “Six Neighbors,” which references the restaurant incorporating the flavors of the Central American countries neighboring Mexico.

Seis Vecinos is participating in the upcoming Savor the Bronx restaurant week, which is February 18th to February 23rd, 2025. Savor the Bronx restaurant week is a 6-day opportunity for restaurants of all kinds around the borough to offer a pre fixe menu to attract new customers and offer up the chance to enjoy the flavors of The Bronx. Food lovers should keep an eye on our Instagram and newsletters for more information closer to the event!

Throughout the month of January, our goal is to get more restaurants signed up so we can show off all the flavors of The Bronx. Restaurant weeks are beneficial to both the restaurant and the customer — keep reading to learn more about why Omar Canales of Seis Vecinos restaurant decided to participate.

1.  Why did you decide to sign up for Savor the Bronx?

We have participated in prior Bronx Restaurant week events that have helpfully raised awareness for us and the Bronx Restaurant community.

2. What would you say is the most ordered dish at your restaurant?

Ou rmost ordered dish would be the Fried Chicken Honduran Style or known as Pollo frito con Tajadas, followed by Pupusas and Baleadas.

3. What do you love about owning a restaurant in The Bronx?

My family owns the restaurant and it’s a pleasure knowing that I am directly part of the team contributing to our culture and community right here in The Bronx. Being born in The Bronx comes with its sense of pride to be able to share with everyone good food.

4. What kind of discount are you offering for Savor the Bronx? What do you encourage new customers to try?

We are offering 15 percent off our whole menu. We encourage our customers to try our Pupusas and Baleadas or fresh Guacamole to start. Our traditional Central Amerian soups are a fan favorite for soup and seafood lovers. I would also encourage customers to try various entrée dishes from our Tajadas section of the menu or the Cena options, which offer you a large dish with multiple flavors.

5. What’s your favorite thing to eat at Seis Vecinos?

My favorite thing to eat currently at Seis Vecinos are the Plantain Canoe dish or known as Canoas de Platano. Two sweet plantains stuffed with savory ground beef topped with Honduran crema and chimol (pico de gallo).

Interested in participating in Savor the Bronx? Sign up here by January 31st. Reach out to Jilleen Barrett, The Bronx Tourism Council’s Director of Communications and Marketing, about receiving a #SavorSpotlight for your restaurant on our Instagram page.
